Law School Resolutions Harder to break than New Year's Resolutions

Happy new year!

It's that time again to come up with those new year's resolutions. I am not one who comes up with resolutions because they are for the most part going to be broken or not entirely followed thru. However, after much reflection, I decided to make some resolution pertaining to my law school career. It's definitely appropriate since I am half way done, so it's good to reflect and gear up for the second half which happens to coincide with the new year

1. Lead an active lifestyle - reading, briefing, sitting at a computer and repeat does not help out in staying fit. In fact it makes it worse than it needs to be. So I am hoping to start working out starting at 2x/wk then to 3x/wk inevitably to 4x/wk. My laziness has not helped this cause and I want to change this. I know if I am active and stick to some sort of work out schedule, I will definitely be focused. In college, I had a dedicated workout plan my sophomore year and I got my highest grades at the time. I cannot help to think that part of it was due to sticking to my program which forced me to have better time management.

2. Outline EARLY - 3 semesters in a row I have failed at this miserably. While I am still waiting for my grades from last semester, I found that doing this at the last minute, I am really cheating myself out of doing well. I know taking Evidence and Constitutional Law, I cannot really afford to procrastinate. I hope that come semester's end, very little outlining and more studying can be accomplished.

3. Apply to at least one internship - due to my craptacular grades of last year, I was too afraid to apply to any  legal internships. I thought it would definitely be one of those applications that are instantly tossed in the trash so I didn't bother to waste my time, hence doing a study abroad program instead. However, I really need to get cracking on this because time is definitely running out. This would involve for me to network a little bit more............

4. Be above it all - Law school is much like high school. I was lucky enough not to deal with so much nonsense and drama when I was in high school. However, it is a challenge to not let it get to you in law school. I am always worried about people think of me and how my words can be twisted this time around through the latest game of Telephone. If there is anything I learned it is that you just cannot live that way. You just have to do things your way and forget everyone else. Some days are hard and some aspirations make it impossible to overlook it but I learned to be successful in life, relationships, etc, you have to be able to rise above it all.
